My favorite scene in the movie I Am Sam is when he is hitch hiking through Italy and gets a ride with a fellow in a pick-up truck. Opera is playing on the radio, and the driver is singing right along with it. It gave me such pleasure to see that opera was something that the general public appreciated and enjoyed on a regular basis. Opera is often only appreciated by the cultured or more fortunate in our society. I really appreciate having Opera in the Park where anyone of any socioeconomic background can come out and enjoy a special evening that they might not otherwise be able to appreciate, either in a building or on the radio.
